What's new in September 2026
Shortlist match requests
Educators with Match Request management permissions can now shortlist Pending match requests they want to continue reviewing. Shortlisted requests remain Pending for employers, who aren’t notified, while experience-side admins share the shortlist and can filter specifically for Shortlisted requests-making it easier to coordinate match request review without changing the underlying request state.
Improved learner invoice experience
Learners now have clearer guidance on what needs to happen before an invoice can be approved. On the invoice details page, payees see a next-steps timeline showing required actions and any required Portal or company approvals, including their current status and relevant approval or due dates. If an invoice is disputed, the affected approval step identifies the dispute and provides an action to view it. When required actions are blocking an invoice, the updated Required actions modal explains what needs to be completed and links learners directly to the relevant tasks. This gives learners a clearer path to understanding what is holding up an invoice and what they can do next.
Resume upload and parsing during learner onboarding
Learners can now optionally upload a resume during the first step of onboarding. The resume will then be used to pre-fill their education, work experience, and projects sections of their profile. The user will be able to see the parsed information as they continue through onboarding and edit it as needed. The uploaded resume is also saved to their profile, and learners can continue onboarding without adding one.
Improvements
- Gradebook CSV exports - Experience administrators and Riipen Admins can now export the gradebook to CSV from Experience > Teams > Scoring when scoring is enabled. The export includes learner, team and match information, along with the status and score of each scored item, making it easier to work with grading data outside Riipen.
- Invoice attention indicators for learners - Learners in paid experiences can now more easily spot invoices that may need attention directly from the Team page. The Invoice tab shows the number of invoices they can view and identifies how many are blocked, pending or in dispute; educators, employers and admins see the total invoice count.
- Clearer guidance for incomplete teams - Milestone pages now show more accurate guidance when a team itself is in an Incomplete state. Instead of suggesting that preceding tasks need to be completed, users are told that the team is incomplete and cannot make further submissions, with a link to learn more about project completion.
- Rich text preserved in individual milestones - Rich text formatting in milestone descriptions is now preserved when viewing individual-completion milestones from the Team page. Paragraph breaks, bulleted lists and other formatting added to the milestone description should therefore be easier for learners to read as intended.
- Better visibility into individually imported projects - Experience administrators can now see projects added through Import single project in Experience settings > Advanced > Imports. This brings those projects into the same imports table so admins have a more complete view of imported projects and their claiming status.
- Employer announcements for individual teams - Experience administrators sending an announcement to an individual team through Team Tracker can now choose Send this to the employer for the team, consistent with the option already available for non-individual teams.
- Updated education step in learner onboarding - The Education step now uses a clearer add-and-manage experience rather than displaying the education form directly on the page. Learners add education through a modal and can edit or delete records before continuing; at least one education record is still required to move forward.
- New experience step in learner onboarding - Learner onboarding now includes a third Experience step for work and volunteer experience and personal projects. These records are optional, can be added, edited or deleted directly during onboarding, and information pre-filled from a resume is identified for the learner.
- Simplified navigation during onboarding - While users are completing the onboarding wizard, the profile menu is now limited to Settings, Help, and Log out. The usual profile-menu options return after onboarding, helping keep users focused on completing the setup flow.
- Experience payment settings & wizard updates - Project hours have moved from Compensation to Team structure and assignment in the experience wizard and are now also available under Participants → Team limits in experience settings. Payment settings have also been aligned more closely with the wizard, including a compensation type field and updated manual payment behaviour, where payments are enabled by default when Manual payments is selected. These changes make it easier for teams to configure and manage payment-related experience settings consistently.
- Team cancellations now require a reason - Riipen Admins, educators, and employers cancelling a team from team settings must now select a cancellation reason: Learner issue, Employer issue, Educator issue, or Other.
- Company magic links - In company member settings, the checkbox for enabling a magic link now appears before the link itself. The magic link is only displayed when the setting is enabled, making the relationship between the setting and link clearer.
- Portal access questions - The portal access application questions section no longer shows an empty question form before the feature has been enabled, reducing confusion when configuring portal access.
- Employer project matches - The Matches tab and matches table have been removed from employer projects. The “View all” action in global search now directs employers to their team matches instead.
- Team change requests - Work hours are now hidden from the change request form when work logs aren’t enabled for the experience. When work logs are disabled and project dates are controlled by the educator or employer, the change request menu item is also hidden from learners and employers, keeping unavailable options out of the team workflow.
- AI assessment scoring - Editing a submission now re-runs AI assessment when it’s enabled for that submission type and there is either no existing score or only a draft score. Any previous draft score is overwritten with the newly generated assessment.
- Payment settings notice - The notice in experience payment settings now clarifies that changes to payment currency, payment amount, employer payment percentage, invoice reviewer, or invoice dispute periods apply only to new match requests. Existing matches and pending match requests are not affected.
- Match resources on teams - Users with permission to view a team can now see match resources from the team’s Resources tab. Resources are organized by pinned status and then by owner, helping users access relevant resources directly within the team.
- Clearer match request next steps - The Match request page now more clearly reflects the two-step acceptance process, showing who has already acted, who needs to act next, relevant dates, and links to pending or completed actions. Primary actions now use Pre-approve when the user is the first party to accept and Confirm when they’re the final party to act, helping educators and employers understand exactly what’s needed to create the match.
- Clearer birthday settings - We’ve removed the non-functional Save button from the birthday section of learner account settings. Learners now see guidance to contact Support if they need to change their birthday.
- Work log descriptions are now required - Learners must now provide a description when submitting a work log. This prevents work logs from being submitted without context about the work completed.
- Improved new company creation - When employers create a new company during onboarding or through the new company flow, the company profile is now created as part of the initial company-data lookup, whether or not additional company information is found. Any additional information found is only saved when the user chooses Save & finish, creating a more reliable company creation flow.
- Fewer team activity notifications for Guided experiences - When an experience uses the Summary report deliverables type, project administrators will no longer receive notifications for individual team kickoff, submission, or submission-update activity. Educators configuring Summary report will also see an informational notice explaining that employers can view individual team progress but won’t be notified about it; conversation and feedback notifications are unaffected.
- Easier-to-edit settings - Settings panels are now clickable, giving users a more intuitive way to start editing when they click within a panel or on a disabled field. The existing Edit button remains available, with a hover state helping indicate that the full panel can be clicked.
-
Company member request improvements - We’ve made it easier for employers and company admins to keep track of pending company membership requests. Employers with pending requests now see clearer reminders and next steps across company creation, their dashboard, project creation, and the request itself—including prompts to confirm their email or verify their identity—while company admins with Members permission receive pending-request counts, tasks, and a reminder email after three days.
Behind the scenes, company membership requests from verified users, or from users whose email domain matches the company website, are now marked as high priority for Riipen's review. - Comments on individual milestone submissions - Learners, employers, educators, and Riipen Admins who can view an individual milestone submission can now leave comments directly on it. Tagging is limited to people who can view the submission, and comment notifications go to the learner who created the milestone rather than every member of their team.
- Scheduled events in experience timelines - Scheduled events now appear alongside key dates and milestones in experience timelines, making it easier to understand when events happen within the overall experience schedule. Events are ordered based on their timing, recurring events appear as a single series, and learners and employers only see events they’re attending while educators who can edit the experience can see all experience events.
- Clearer experience titles on match requests - The experience name on the match request Experience view now appears above the details panel using the same title styling as the main match request view. This small visual update makes the page hierarchy clearer and separates the experience title from the panel content.
- Filter portal members by state - Portal administrators can now filter members by member state, making it quicker to find active or suspended members.
